Enduring Success in Nigeria and West Africa – over 7,000 days of safe and reliable operations

November 2018

December 2018 will see our fleet of Damen 3307 Axebow vessels pass another significant milestone.  As the year comes to a close, our 5 x vessels and their crews will have amassed a total of just over 7,000 days of successful operational charters in West Africa.

The majority of these charters have been in support of Oil and Gas Exploration and Production operations off Nigeria - including several seismic surveys -  but our flexible operating model has also seen our vessels working in Ghana, Ivory Coast, Benin, Togo, Cameroon, Gabon, Namibia and Angola.

7,000 days is a significant period of time – if a single vessel had logged that number of sea days, it would equate to 19 years and 65 days at sea – and is testament to the popularity and strong order book which our modern and versatile fleet has attracted, even during the challenging market conditions which the sector has seen until recently.

Still more impressive is the fact that throughout that period -  almost 20 years’ continuous sea time in one of the most demanding environments of all – the safety and reliability of our fleet has been of the very highest order.

The multi-engine configuration of the vessels (3 x Engines; 3 x Gearboxes; 3 x Propellors) has proved itself to be efficient, economical and reliable.

This is an outstanding record of safety and dependability. Our success is based firmly on three factors; the versatility and reliability of the Damen 3307 vessels themselves, a conscientious and comprehensive system of maintenance and repair, and a safety culture that is driven from the very top of the company and followed by everyone involved in the delivery of our services.

The Caterpillar engines and generators installed throughout the fleet have proved to be powerful, reliable and economical.

Our technical support team have a close working relationship with the manufacturers, Damen, and we have a long-established network of agents and partners to ensure a fast and reliable logistics supply chain for service parts and spares throughout West Africa.

Our HSEQ managers continue to train and practise our people in order to promote a proactive attitude towards safety and environmental responsibility.  This brings benefits in a number of ways; not only do we enjoy a superb safety record on all of our vessels and offshore projects, but this positive stance is evident to our charterers (and often to the Oil Major end client) and gives reassurance that our involvement will fit safely and seamlessly within their own project or deployment.

The recent establishment of Admiral Offshore Limited allows us to focus on our offshore capability and to develop our strength in Africa.  With the transition now fully completed, and a strong order book for 2019 and beyond, we are confident of adding many more  thousands of sea days to our record of success.
